Attendance

Attendance

Attendance is extremely important to us at Castle because research shows that good attendance is vital in ensuring students achieve their full potential. We work in partnership with parents and carers and so seek your full support in ensuring your child attends school every day, on time. We want every student to be in school as much as they possibly can, and we aspire to get as close to 100% attendance as possible.

Absences

Students, like the rest of us, will sometimes be unwell. If your child is too unwell to attend school, please phone 01223 442400 by 9:15am each day and select option 2 to report your child’s absence. Please ensure the school has up-to-date contact details as we will contact you if your child is absent, and you have not contacted us. If no contact is received regarding an absence, it is recorded as unauthorised.

Please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance, if you are experiencing difficulty getting your child into school.

Absences in Advance

Requests in advance for short absences (one day or less) must be put in writing by email to office@castle.cambs.sch.uk, attaching where possible a copy of the appointment notification.

Requests for longer absences must be made by completing an absence request form, which can be downloaded at the bottom of this page or obtained from the school office.  The completed form should be returned to the school office marked for the attention of the Headteacher. As a parent or guardian, you are strongly urged to avoid booking holidays or visits overseas during term-time. Headteachers will not grant leave of absence during term time unless there are 'exceptional circumstances'. Requests should be made well in advance to allow a good time for processing.
