Castle School

Semi-Formal

For our semi-formal learners, the focus is on building practical skills and confidence in early number concepts. Pupils explore shape and number through hands-on activities and real-life experiences, helping them understand how maths applies to their everyday environment and community.

Maths is delivered through focused sessions within the daily timetable, with long-term planning created by subject specialists and adapted by class teachers to meet individual needs. Practical skills are embedded throughout the day, with opportunities to explore concepts using the Attention Autism approach, making learning engaging and interactive.

By integrating shape and number into real-life experiences, we ensure that learners connect their mathematical knowledge to the world around them, building a strong foundation for future learning.

Our semi-formal learners move through the Castle Rainbows and Castle Gemstones assessments. This leads to OCR life and living skills accreditation.
