Formal
For our formal learners, the focus is on building fluency, reasoning, and problem-solving skills, aiming to develop a deep understanding of key mathematical concepts. This strong foundation helps students master maths and apply their learning in real-world contexts.
Maths is delivered through focused sessions on the daily timetable, with long-term planning created by subject specialists and adapted by class teachers to meet the needs of each learner. In addition to classroom learning, maths is applied in the community through life skills and enterprise projects, as well as through cross-curricular projects that provide students with opportunities to connect their mathematical knowledge to practical, real-life situations across various subject areas.
Our formal learners progress through the Castle Rainbows and Castle Gemstones assessments. This includes the OCR Entry Level Mathematics functional skills qualification and also covers the Financial Education Framework in KS4 and KS5.
