Behaviour

Introduction

We know that children’s behaviour can become challenging in different ways and for a variety of reasons. We also know that when it comes to behaviour, the more that school and home  need to work together. At school, we try to help any pupil whose behaviour slows down or prevents their learning. Our support is based on the principle that if a child is exhibiting challenging behaviour, it is because they have needs that are not being met. These needs can be:

  • Physical

  • Communicative

  • Emotional

  • Sensory

  • Social

  • Cognitive

  • Related to mental health

All children have a digital passport which parents have a right to see. This includes:

  • Strengths and challenges.

  • Possible triggers for the behaviour.

  • Early warning signs that a child may be becoming dysregulated.

  • What adults can do and say to help.

  • What we need to do to keep everyone safe.

  • What skills do we need to teach to replace the need for challenging behaviour.

  • Working with outside professionals to ensure coordinated and targeted support.

  • Providing training.
