Our aim in Deer Class is to broaden pupils’ experiences and understanding of the world, so they can navigate it safely and with growing independence. We offer personalised learning opportunities that help each child work towards their individual targets and celebrate their unique strengths. Communication is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s asking for help, expressing a want, a need, or a feeling, sharing news, recalling and sequencing events, or clarifying ideas, children are supported to express themselves confidently, so that they are understood. We create a calm and supportive environment where children can develop their self-esteem and independence across daily routines, learning activities, and essential life skills. Emotional vocabulary and literacy are woven throughout the day, helping pupils to recognise, describe, and manage their feelings so they can build emotional resilience while feeling heard, secure, and understood.
