Churchill is a formal KS5 class for students in sixth form. Students study schemes of learning in formal lessons which are aimed at allowing them to develop the skills required for the Edexcel Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths. The English schemes of learning are based on a variety of different texts to facilitate Castle School’s ethos of encouraging engagement with reading and literature. The Maths schemes of learning enable students to practice and develop their maths skills linked to real life contexts and themes. Students also explore a wide range of subjects in PSHE in preparation for adulthood as well as exploring subjects such as banking, financial terminology and money management in Financial Capability.
Alongside the formal lesson timetable sixth form students also participate in a variety of activities designed to prepare them for adulthood, including:
-
Cooking: Developing practical cooking skills for independent living.
-
Duke of Edinburgh: Taking part in challenges to build resilience and teamwork.
-
Work-Related Learning: Gaining experience in real-world working environments.
-
Careers and Personal Development: exploring different career pathways, C.V and looking at developing their own specific areas of interest.
-
Life Skills: Learning essential skills for day-to-day living and independence.
-
Enterprise schemes: developing skills that relate to preparation for adulthood, college, apprenticeships and the workplace beyond Castle.
-
Physical: Activities to develop physical strength, healthy lifestyle and well- being.
At the heart of our Castle School Sixth Form is a commitment to nurturing confident, independent young adults. We actively encourage our students to explore their own voices, engage in student-led initiatives, and speak out on the issues that matter most to them. As they prepare for adulthood, we support each individual in discovering the opportunities available to them, always within a caring and inclusive environment. Here, every student is valued, encouraged to grow in self-belief, and inspired to become the very best they can be. We are always delighted to welcome new students into our Sixth Form family and look forward to supporting them as they embrace new experiences and shape their own futures.
