Castle School is an Area Special School in Cambridge serving over 250 pupils with special needs ranging from 4 to 19 years of age.  It takes a big team to support our students and their families.  Around 150 staff work at Castle School: we are teachers, teaching assistants, therapists, caretakers and administrators.  

Our school is a warm and welcoming place.  We strive to provide our pupils with a bespoke and therapeutic experience utilising our excellent staff and superb facilities. At Castle School it's not just the students who learn and grow, our workforce is constantly evolving.  We pride ourselves on harnessing the talents and experience our staff bring with them and supporting their continuing professional development.

The school operates across multiple sites within the city and staff may be expected to work at any site.  Visits to the school are warmly welcomed; please call the school office (01223 442400) to arrange this.

Both car and cycle parking are available at both our Courtney Way and Galfrid Rd sites and the school benefits from good public transport connections.  

Courtney Way site: The citi 1 route stops at the end of the road.  A slightly longer walk takes you to Milton Rd (citi 2 route) or Gilbert Rd (citi 8 route).

Galfrid Rd site: both the citi 3 (Rawlyn Rd Stop) and the Newmarket Rd Park & Ride (Ditton Walk Stop) stop close to the school.

Teaching Staff are eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme and Support Staff are eligible for the Local Government Pensions Scheme.

Castle School is committed to the safeguarding and promotion of children’s welfare. All applicants will be subject to online checks prior to short-listing and all appointments are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Safeguarding procedures form part of the induction process. A copy of the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy is available to download from the Policies section of this website. The school will require a Certificate of Good Conduct, where applicable, from the professional regulating authority in the country in which the applicant has worked. Whenever possible, references will be applied for prior to interview.
